From a tapped bumper to a car that's been folded in an intersection, collision repair is what we've done on Springfield Boulevard since 1973 — measured, documented, and returned to factory condition.
Fender-benders to structural rebuilds
Every collision job follows the same path: an itemized written estimate, teardown to expose hidden damage, computerized frame measurement, panel repair and factory-match paint, then a full quality check before you get the keys. Small jobs turn around in days; major structural work takes longer and we give you an honest timeline up front.

Full-Service Auto Body Repair in Queens, NY
Auto body repair is the umbrella over everything we do — panels, rust, alignment, and finish — bringing a damaged car back to the way it left the factory.
Panel repair, replacement & rust
We repair or replace dented, creased, and rusted panels, cut out and rebuild corroded metal, and refinish the area so it disappears into the rest of the car. Doors, fenders, quarter panels, hoods, trunks — domestic, import, and luxury.
Restored to factory spec
Gaps, alignment, and finish are checked against the manufacturer's specifications, not eyeballed. Every repair is backed by a lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle.
Family-operated on Springfield Blvd since 1973 — all 5 boroughs + Nassau.
Auto Paint Shop & Factory-Match Refinishing in Queens
A repair is only as good as its paint. Ours is matched by instrument, sprayed in a downdraft booth, and blended so there's no seam where the new finish meets the old.
Spectrophotometer color matching
We read your car's exact color and factory variant with a spectrophotometer, mix the paint in-house, and blend it into the surrounding panels. Applied in a downdraft booth and heat-cured for a factory-grade finish that holds up.
Full repaints & custom work
Beyond collision refinishing, we handle full-vehicle repaints, color changes, and custom finishes — all backed by our lifetime paint warranty against fading, peeling, and workmanship defects.
Send a few photos and we'll get you a written estimate, no obligation.
Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) in Queens
When the paint is unbroken, we can often push a dent out from behind the panel and leave your factory finish completely intact — no filler, no repaint, and a fraction of the cost.
Door dings, creases & hail
PDR is ideal for shopping-cart dings, door dents, minor creases, and hail damage. Because the original paint is never touched, your factory finish and its warranty stay intact and the repair is usually same-day.
When PDR isn't the answer
If the paint is cracked or the metal is stretched too far, we'll tell you straight and quote conventional repair with filler and refinishing instead. You always get the honest, cost-effective option first.
No rides to arrange, no waiting around. Talk to us today.
Bumper Repair & Replacement in Queens, NY
Most bumper damage doesn't need a whole new bumper. We repair cracks, tears, scuffs, and scrapes on plastic covers for far less than replacement — and replace them properly when it's the safer call.
Repair or replace — the honest call
Plastic bumper covers can often be welded, filled, and refinished to look factory-new. When the damage compromises the bumper's structure or the sensors behind it, we replace it and tell you exactly why.
Sensors, finish & paint match
Modern bumpers carry parking sensors and cameras. We recalibrate what's behind the bumper and match the paint with our spectrophotometer so the repair blends seamlessly into the rest of the car.
Free estimate, free pickup & delivery — we come to you.
Frame & Unibody Straightening in Queens
After a serious hit, what you can't see matters most. We measure and straighten frames and unibodies back to the manufacturer's blueprint so the car is safe, not just straight-looking.
Computerized frame measurement
Structural damage is measured on a computerized frame rack against factory specifications. We pull and re-measure until every reference point is back within tolerance, and hand you before-and-after printouts to prove it.
Safe, roadworthy structural repair
A frame that's off throws alignment, tire wear, and crash protection. We don't release a vehicle whose structure isn't back to spec and whose safety systems haven't been recalibrated and road-tested.
Family-operated on Springfield Blvd since 1973 — all 5 boroughs + Nassau.
Insurance Claim Help & Direct Billing in NYC
An accident is stressful enough. We take the claim off your plate — dealing with the adjuster, documenting the damage, and billing your carrier directly.
It's your choice of shop — and we handle the rest
Under New York Insurance Law §2610, you have the right to choose any licensed body shop; your insurer cannot require theirs. We work with GEICO, Allstate, State Farm, Progressive, USAA and every other major NY carrier, and we make the calls so you don't have to.
Supplements & no surprise bills
When teardown reveals damage the first estimate missed, we document it and submit a supplement directly to your adjuster — usually approved within days. You never pay the difference on covered repairs.
We bill your carrier directly and handle the paperwork for you.
Tesla & EV Body Shop in Queens
Electric vehicles aren't repaired like gas cars. We follow manufacturer protocols for high-voltage safety, aluminum structure, and the sensors that make an EV drive itself.
High-voltage & aluminum protocols
We de-energize and isolate high-voltage systems before structural work, and repair Tesla, Rivian, and other EV aluminum panels with dedicated MIG/TIG welding kept separate from steel to prevent corrosion. Bonded-aluminum chassis work is done to spec.
ADAS recalibration built in
Cameras, radar, and driver-assist systems have to be recalibrated after bodywork or they misread the road. We recalibrate ADAS in-house to the manufacturer's procedure so your EV's safety features work exactly as they did before.
Send a few photos and we'll get you a written estimate, no obligation.
Hail Damage Repair in Queens, NY
A hailstorm can dimple an entire roof, hood, and trunk in minutes. Most of it comes out with paintless dent repair — keeping your factory paint and usually covered by your comprehensive policy.
Full-vehicle paintless dent repair
We work the dents out from behind each panel so the original paint is never disturbed. It's faster and cleaner than filler-and-repaint, and it preserves your car's factory finish and value.
Insurance-billed, deductible only
Hail is almost always a comprehensive-coverage claim. We document the damage, bill your carrier directly, and handle the adjuster — so your out-of-pocket is usually just the deductible, if that.
No rides to arrange, no waiting around. Talk to us today.

Auto Body & Collision Repair FAQ — Cost, Insurance & Timelines
The forty questions Queens and Nassau drivers ask us most — covering cost, timelines, insurance and deductibles, OEM parts, paint matching, frame and structural work, EVs, warranties, and the specific things that come up on every collision repair.
How much does collision repair cost in NYC?
Collision repair pricing in NYC depends on the damage. Minor bumper or panel work typically runs $800–$2,500. Mid-sized collision repair with paint and parts runs $2,500–$8,000. Major structural repair with frame work, multiple panels, and supplemental damage commonly runs $8,000–$20,000+. We give a written, itemized estimate before any work begins.
How long does collision repair take at D. MacArthur Auto Body?
Small bumper jobs typically turn around in 2–3 days. Mid-sized collision repair runs 1–2 weeks. Major structural and frame repair varies based on parts availability — usually 2–4 weeks. We give you an honest timeline up front and update you when parts arrive.
Do I have to use the body shop my insurance recommends?
No. Under New York Insurance Law §2610, you have the right to choose any licensed body shop. Your insurer cannot require you to use any specific shop, regardless of what they say on the phone. D. MacArthur Auto Body works with every major NY carrier.
What is paintless dent repair (PDR) and when does it work?
PDR uses specialized tools to push and massage dents out from behind the panel without sanding, filler, or repainting. It works for door dings, shopping-cart dents, hail damage, and minor creases where the paint is unbroken. Done correctly, the original factory paint stays intact and your vehicle's warranty is preserved.
Will I get a rental car during my body shop repair?
If your insurance policy includes rental coverage, your carrier will arrange a rental directly — most policies cover up to $30–$50/day for 14–30 days. We coordinate with your carrier and the rental provider so you don't have to manage it.
Do you repair Tesla and EV vehicles in Queens?
Yes. D. MacArthur Auto Body handles Tesla, Rivian, and other EV bodywork — including aluminum panel repair, high-voltage system de-energization, ADAS recalibration, and structural work on Tesla's bonded-aluminum chassis. We follow manufacturer protocols for safe battery isolation before any structural work.
How much does it cost to fix a dent?
PDR for a single door ding typically runs $75–$200. Multiple dents on one panel run $200–$500. Hail damage across an entire vehicle is usually covered by comprehensive insurance and billed directly. Traditional dent repair with body filler and paint runs $300–$1,200 depending on panel size and color complexity.
What insurance carriers do you work with in NYC and Nassau?
Every major insurer operating in New York — GEICO, Allstate, State Farm, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, USAA, Nationwide, Travelers, Farmers, MetLife, Esurance, AAA — plus local and specialty carriers. We bill direct, so you pay only your deductible.
OEM vs aftermarket parts — which do you use?
We push for OEM parts on safety-critical components (airbags, sensors, structural panels) and when warranty preservation matters. Aftermarket and recycled parts can be appropriate for cosmetic work where they meet manufacturer fit and finish. We always tell you which is being used and why.
Do you offer a warranty on body shop work?
Yes. All workmanship at D. MacArthur Auto Body carries a lifetime warranty against paint failure, peeling, and repair workmanship defects for as long as you own the vehicle. We've been honoring that warranty since 1973.
Can I get a free estimate before filing an insurance claim?
Yes — walk-in or send photos for a free written estimate with no obligation. Many customers use our estimate to decide whether to file a claim or pay out of pocket. Call (718) 723-6163 to schedule or just stop by 136-31 Springfield Blvd.
What happens if my insurance estimate is too low?
Initial insurance estimates are often based on visible damage only. Once we tear down the damaged area, hidden damage becomes visible and we document it for a supplement. We submit supplements directly to your adjuster — typically approved within days. You never pay the difference.
Do I have to pay my deductible?
Yes — your deductible is your share of the repair, and it's due when you pick up the car. We bill the rest directly to your carrier. If the other driver was at fault and their insurer is paying the claim, there's usually no deductible for you at all.
How do you make sure a frame or structural repair is safe?
Structural damage is measured on a computerized frame rack against the manufacturer's factory blueprint. We pull and re-measure until every point is back within spec, and we give you before-and-after measurement printouts. We don't release a car whose structure isn't back to factory tolerance.
How do you match my car's paint color?
We read the exact color off your vehicle with a spectrophotometer — that captures the precise shade and any factory variant — then mix the paint in-house, apply it in a downdraft booth, and blend it into the adjacent panels so there's no visible seam.
Will I be able to tell the car was repaired?
Done right, no. Paint is blended into surrounding panels and heat-cured, and we inspect the match under multiple light sources before delivery. A proper collision repair should be invisible — that's the standard we've held since 1973.
What if my insurance says my car is a total loss?
An insurer typically declares a total loss when repair costs approach the car's value. If you disagree, our detailed repair estimate can support a dispute, and in some cases you can keep the vehicle and have it repaired. We'll walk you through the options honestly before you decide.
Can I claim diminished value after an accident?
In New York you can generally pursue a diminished-value claim against the at-fault driver's insurer — the idea that a repaired car is worth less than one that was never hit. We provide full repair documentation to support that claim.
My car isn't drivable — can you get it to your shop?
Call us at (718) 723-6163 and we'll help arrange a tow to 136-31 Springfield Blvd. If your car is drivable, we also offer free pickup so you never have to coordinate the logistics yourself.
Do you work on all makes and models?
Yes — domestic, import, luxury, and EV. We're manufacturer-certified for several brands and equipped for everything from a daily commuter to an aluminum-body truck or a Tesla.
Do you repair bumpers or replace them?
Whichever is safer and more cost-effective. Many plastic bumper cracks, scuffs, and tears can be repaired for far less than a replacement. If the damage compromises sensors or structure, we replace it and tell you exactly why.
How much does it cost to fix scratches and scuffs?
Light scratches in the clear coat often buff out for $150–$400. Deeper scratches that reach primer or metal need the panel repainted, usually $400–$900 depending on panel size and color. We'll tell you which category yours falls in when we see it.
Do you recalibrate cameras and sensors after a repair?
Yes. Modern cars use cameras and radar for lane-keeping, automatic braking, and blind-spot alerts. After bodywork we recalibrate those ADAS systems in-house to the manufacturer's spec, so your safety features work exactly as they did before the accident.
Can you repair aluminum-body vehicles like the Ford F-150?
Yes. We have dedicated aluminum MIG/TIG welding and keep aluminum work isolated from steel to prevent cross-contamination and corrosion — the manufacturer-required process for aluminum-body vehicles.
Do you fix hail damage?
Yes. Most hail dents are handled with paintless dent repair, which keeps your factory paint intact. Hail damage is usually covered under your comprehensive coverage, and we bill your carrier directly.
Do you do engine or mechanical repairs?
We're a collision and auto body shop — bodywork, paint, frame, and structural repair. For engine, transmission, or general mechanical work, we'll point you to a trusted mechanic. Anything accident-related that touches the body, structure, or safety systems, we handle.
Can you fix rust on my car?
Yes. We cut out rusted metal, replace it with new panel, treat the area, and repaint. First we assess whether the rust is cosmetic or has reached structural metal, then give you an honest recommendation and estimate.
How much does a full repaint cost?
A quality full repaint generally runs $3,500–$8,000+, depending on the color, the amount of prep and bodywork needed, and the finish. Custom colors and multi-stage finishes cost more. We give you a written estimate before starting.
How do I start the repair process with you?
Call (718) 723-6163 or send photos of the damage. We give you a written estimate, coordinate the claim with your insurer, and schedule drop-off — or free pickup if that's easier. From there we keep you updated until the car is back to you.
What do you need from me to give an estimate?
Clear photos of the damage from a few angles, your vehicle's year/make/model, and — if you're filing a claim — your insurance and claim number. That's enough for a written estimate; we confirm the details in person before any work begins.
Do you pick up and drop off my car?
Yes — free pickup and delivery across all five boroughs and Nassau County. We come to you, take the car to our shop, repair it, and bring it back to your door. No rides to arrange and no waiting around.
Can I pay out of pocket without going through insurance?
Absolutely. Many customers pay out of pocket for smaller jobs to avoid a claim. We give you a written estimate up front and, where it makes sense, can phase non-safety work so it fits your budget.
How do you make sure the repair is done right before I get it back?
Every car goes through a final quality check: panel and body alignment, paint match under multiple light sources, ADAS recalibration where equipped, and a road test. We don't hand back the keys until it's right.
Will my car be safe to drive after the repair?
Yes. Structural repairs are measured back to manufacturer spec, safety systems are recalibrated, and everything is road-tested before delivery. We don't release a car we wouldn't put our own family in.
Can my car stay at your shop while the claim is sorted out?
Yes. We can hold your vehicle securely while estimates, approvals, and supplements are worked out with your insurer, so it's ready to go the moment the claim clears.
What does I-CAR Gold Class certified mean?
I-CAR Gold Class is the collision-repair industry's top training standard — fewer than one in ten shops hold it. It means our technicians are trained on current repair procedures for today's vehicles, including high-strength steel, aluminum, and EV systems.
Do you guarantee the paint will match?
Yes. Spectrophotometer color matching plus panel blending, backed by our lifetime paint warranty against fading, peeling, and workmanship defects for as long as you own the car.
What if the parts my car needs are on backorder?
We tell you up front if a part is hard to source, order OEM parts as soon as the claim is approved to shorten the wait, and keep your car drivable in the meantime whenever it's safe to do so.
Can I get an estimate from photos without coming in?
Yes. Text or email clear photos of the damage and we'll send you a written estimate. We confirm the final details in person before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
How long has D. MacArthur Auto Body been in business?
Since 1973 — over fifty years on Springfield Boulevard in Queens. Same family, same shop, same crew. That's five decades of collision and paint work for Queens and Nassau drivers.
Bring your car to our Queens body shop.
